What is the Brownsville Wellness Program?

The Brownsville Wellness Program at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center is a comprehensive program designed to support individuals with diabetes through nutrition education, cooking classes, fitness activities, and more. The program aims to improve the health and well-being of participants by promoting a healthy lifestyle and managing their diabetes effectively.


Our Team

Kiasa Lewis, Program Manger, BWP

Kiasa Lewis is a Program Manager with the Brownsville Wellness Program at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC). Her work centers on advancing health equity through education, resource access, and community engagement. She designs and leads workshops, oversees weekly food distribution initiatives, and supports CHWs and interns in delivering compassionate, participant-centered services. Kiasa’s background spans community health, higher education, and the arts, informing her holistic approach to supporting residents. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Medgar Evers College and an MBA from Brooklyn College. She is dedicated to strengthening programs that promote health, empowerment, and long-term community wellbeing.

Dylan Ramnarine, Community Health Worker, BWP

 Dylan Ramnarine is a Community Health Worker with the Brownsville Wellness Program at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC). He is a recent graduate at SUNY Farmingdale, with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition Science. Starting his career in sales and customer service, while pursuing an education in nutrition science led to the passion of assisting various populations through health and wellness. Advancing his career at the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation(CHLDC) as both a Program Aide and Nutrition Education Coordinator furthered his expertise in working within nonprofit corporations, overseeing different operations and supporting the Food Access and Public Benefits team. He is happy to join a team of like-minded individuals, serving the community in whichever way he can!

Kelly Curo, Community Health Worker, BWP

Kelly Curo is a Community Health Worker with the Brownsville Wellness Program at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC). She has a background in administrative and community-focused work, where she has supported programs that help individuals connect with employment opportunities and essential resources. Her experience includes data entry, assisting with job placements, participant communication, and program coordination. As a bilingual professional, Kelly values building strong connections with people from diverse backgrounds and helping individuals feel supported and understood. She has a strong interest in community health, wellness, and advocacy, and is passionate about helping others navigate services that can improve their quality of life. Kelly is currently preparing to begin her journey as a community health worker and looks forward to making a positive impact by supporting individuals and families in accessing the resources they need to thrive.



Upcoming Events

The Brownsville Wellness Program hosts a variety of events aimed at helping the community overcome chronic ailments and nutrition-based diseases. Through these events, we aim to foster a community of like-minded, supportive, and positive individuals to make the journey to a healthier lifestyle a more enjoyable process!
