Executive Director
Alexis Aquino is the Executive Director and Executive Chef at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC). His culinary journey began at Columbia University, where he catered events and advised young professionals on nutrition. After earning top honors at the Institute of Culinary Education, Alexis led workforce development programs at FEDCAP’s Career Design School, empowering adults with disabilities through culinary arts. At BCCC, he now champions programs at the intersection of food, social justice, economic mobility, and health equity.

Alexandria Sumpter-Delves
Alexandria Sumpter-Delves is a strategic leader in youth development and workforce readiness with a proven track record in program design, grant management, and civic engagement. As Division Director of College and Career Services at Queens Community House she oversaw workforce and post-secondary education opportunities for young adults 14-24 years of age. Alexandria’s work history includes managing the training partnership between CUNY and the NYC Housing Recovery Office (HRO) for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. With a decade of service at The Police Athletic League (PAL), as a Manager of Training and Volunteer Services, she supported the Professional Development Committee, Training and Development Committee and developed the stand alone mentoring program in Brownville, Brooklyn, GirlTalk. She’s also held a number of progressively responsible positions in youth development and community service at Safe Space, Public Allies New York, Common Cause New York, and Columbia University. Alexandria serves on the Queens Public Library Board of Trustees and Community Board 9 (Queens) and holds a B.A. in Communications and Culture from CUNY SPS and is a New York Community Trust Fellow at Baruch College. Her career also includes work in fundraising, marketing, and public relations.

Chef Johan Compere-Horton
Chef Johan Compere-Horton is a Brooklyn-based Executive Chef, General Manager, educator, and hospitality visionary known for blending bold Caribbean influence with elevated contemporary cuisine. As Executive Chef and General Manager of Velvet Room and Head Chef and Social Enterprise Manager at BCCC, she leads restaurant operations while mentoring the next generation of culinary professionals. Raised under the influence of her mother, Gertha Compere, a classically trained French pastry chef, Johan developed a deep respect for technique, artistry, and discipline that continues to shape her cooking today. Her mission is to reform the culinary world by teaching students that passion, love, and dedication to the craft are the true keys to success, using food as a vehicle for culture, creativity, and community impact.
